My kindergarten students rock! They are creative, curious and have big hearts! I teach 27 energetic 5 years old students at a Title 1 school, where over 95% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Every day my students face several challenges in and out of the classroom. Yet, despite these challenges, they love learning, one can easily tell by the way their faces light up when they learn something new but even more so when the lesson is hands-on.
Being that they are on a free or reduced lunch, many come from low-income and single-family households that lack technology at home.
Therefore, the things we might see as simple to them it's something astounding. That is why from the minute they walk through the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Although I may not be able to control their life at home, I can certainly influence their experience at school. By doing this in a creative, nurturing, and positive way, I am hoping to inspire my young learners every day.
My Project
I will like to attend the online Creative Electronics and Coding with Chibitronics Paper Circuits professional development to learn and acquire new skills that I can take back and share with my students. The program will help me practice designing and making skills for accessibility and equity to reach all of my students.
Students need hands-on activities that help them think outside the box and design projects where they can use their imagination.
The Chibitronics Program will provide me with the skills and lessons that I can incorporate using hands-on engineering, electronics, and design challenges. Most importantly this will be done with inexpensive low and high tech materials that can e easily acquired to use in the classroom.
