This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hello! My name is Alexandra Garcia and I am a first year, fourth-grade teacher! I work with an awesome group of 23 kids! We are a diverse group and are a little family. We all enjoy learning together and the students are so eager to learn. They constantly support and motivate each other every day. They ALL have tremendous amount of love for reading. I couldn't have asked for a better group to share my first year of teaching with!

My Project

My 23 students and I currently share chrome books with our other awesome fourth grade class. We have about 30 working chrome books at the moment. My team teacher and I currently try to make due with what we have by arranging time blocks where we can both have access to the chrome books. However, next year my partner and I will have about 36 students per class. Yikes!

Our students love to use programs that enhance and strengthen their knowledge.

For example, we use programs such as Zearn, Code.org, Google Classroom, Kahoot, and many more! I will fill you in briefly on a few programs.

Zearn- This program is free and aligns with our curriculum, which is Eureka Math. The students love building their knowledge and are motivated to use this program. It helps students by reviewing and teaching math concepts that are taught in the classroom.

Code.org is an amazing program where students can practice coding. The students love to work on their "hour of code," where they are tasked with obstacles which are completing by coding. When students are exposed to coding, they become interested in careers in the field of computer science! As an educator, I want my students to have these experiences to impact their future careers.

Google Classroom is a phenomenal online program where students complete assignments that are assigned by their teacher. The assignments may include presentations, essays, and even escape rooms! When students are exposed to such assignments they are becoming prepared for the next grade level. The more that they are familiar with presentations and typing, the more comfortable they feel when tasked with assignments.
