Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a vibrant and lively group of four and five year olds. We are constantly on the move learning and exploring new things. They love when I bring technology into the classroom.

We are a technology school with grades pre-k to 8.

Our population consists of mostly minority students with 86% of the children eligible for free lunch. The students at this age are very eager to learn. The stakeholders in our building work extremely hard to educate these students. We want them to succeed despite the challenges they face.

My Project

We have 30 laptops and iPads for the entire school to use. We get to use the iPads for thirty minutes a day and there are times when we can not use them at all. We currently have computers in our classroom but they are antiquated and freeze often making them difficult to use. When I borrow iPads, the students are so excited to use them. I downloaded letter and sight word apps to help the students practice basic reading skills. The iPads really hold their interest and it gives them a break from pencil and paper practice. The Kindle Fires (with cases) will also allow the students to access the technology portion of our reading and math programs provided by the district.

Technology is the wave of the future.

All students should have access to current technology. Many underprivileged students lack access to current technology. They rely on the schools to provide it, but the schools are lacking in resources. Students are also learning on these devices to strengthen their literacy and math skills needed to be successful students. The Kindle Fire is an inexpensive way to bring technology into the classroom.
