I tell my students to question everything around them because that's what makes a good scientist. If you get it wrong the first time, it's OK, keep trying until you get it right. Some of the best inventions came about from trying to create one thing and they ended up with something better. I want my students to apply what they have learned in my class to their life, and to know that location does not determine greatness.
My school is not a Title I School and because of this, our funds are limited.
My students' income level varies. Some of my students are living in impoverished areas and many have not traveled outside of their neighborhoods. It's a population of mostly African American and Hispanic students. My students want more, but many are not sure how to achieve it.
In the world we live in today, we are surrounded by technology. Unfortunately, many of my students have limited access to these types of resources in their homes. I plan on using the Chromebooks to integrate these tools into their daily learning.
I teach at a low-income public school that has a diverse learning population including English language learners.
Students need more than worksheets to learn, they need hands-on experience and access to technology to connect them to the world around them. Take a moment, if you can, and imagine being able to use a QR code to complete an online scavenger hunt or Skype with people who actually work in the field of Physics and Chemistry or even being able to collaborate with another class across the country? With this technology, my students will be able to make this possible. It has great features that we can use to create projects, reinforce learning or practice their skills. If this project gets funded my students won't be so far behind, because this is only the beginning.
If you can't imagine a day without technology, imagine what my students could do if they had it! Your support to fund my class will change the way they see science.
