Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I would like to provide my students with "a picture [that] is worth a 1,000 words." My second grade students are motivated learners who wish to learn the English language. This will be my second year to teach second grade. Resources are limited and I would like to help them any way I can.

My students, like the rest of the students in my school, are on 100% free or reduced lunch program.

They come from disadvantaged, low socioeconomic status homes and reside in an urban area of Houston. Their parents came to the area in search of providing their families with the same opportunities afforded to other children of our community. Their main barrier to success is language. In a rapidly changing world, my students need a variety of resources to assist them to learn the English language and maintain their own language.

My Project

Communication is an important aspect of our community. In order to communicate, students need the opportunities to learn the language. I hope to receive an HP color laser printer to provide these opportunities by printing colorful flashcards, picture prompts and games in hopes that my students achieve success and become bilingual and biliterate learners.

In closing, this project will have a positive effect in lives of my students.

They will take with them a greater understanding of the English language and continue to become bilingual and biliterate citizens of our community.
