Technology in TK!

My students need Chromebooks in order to utilize valuable learning programs during literacy center time, such as Footsteps to Brilliance (for reading skills) and Code-a-Pillar (for coding skills).

My Students

We are a large elementary school in Northern California. We have a very diverse population in our school. I have students whose families come from all over the world. In my class alone, we speak six different languages. What wonderful diversity! Being a transitional kindergarten class we do a lot of hands-on exploration and have a lot of firsts - first time to write our names, first time to count, first time to use scissors, first time to have any type of schooling.

My Project

Accessing literacy programs on Chromebooks in a small group of five students during my literacy center time would greatly contribute to student academic success in my TK classroom. While I work with another small group, students could be practicing the material on Chromebooks, rather than doing "busy work".

Students would be able to practice valuable skills on these Chromebooks, such as identifying letters and sounds, mathematics, and coding.

There is no room in our school budget to purchase Chromebooks for my students. My classroom is not yet at a level technologically to meet my students' needs as learners. This grant will help to close that gap quite a bit more. Please help me to get my students the technology we need for an even more successful literacy program in our TK Class. Thank you!
