Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 45 amazing first graders who are learning Spanish as a second language. The majority of my students come from an English only background. According to My partner teacher that was their kindergarten teacher last year, these students are hungry for knowledge in a new language. They already have an amazing community within their cohort and are eager to learn more since they are in love with the Spanish language. These children are resilient and truly one of a kind.

My Project

Our classroom needs 3 amazon tablets and 6 headphones. I have already received 3 tablets as donations and need three more so that my students can access their estrellita student accounts as well as their Razkids literacy accounts. They need to be able to listen to the Spanish language while they read to receive exposure.

My students need these resources because most of my students come from English only households and the only exposure they have is the exposure they get from me.

Once I have a set of 6 tablets and 6 headphones, we can begin to do small group stations in which 6 students can be listening to Spanish literature and playing educational Spanish games through their estrellita literacy accounts.

Having accessible technology that doesn't require so much maintenaince will also help build student independence. They are such enthusiastic students that are eager to learn Spanish as a second language. If they learn how to access these resources in my classroom, they will be able to access them at home and do it independently. We need to have technology accessible in this growing technological world.
