This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom consist of 22 Pre-K students. By the end of the year I want my students to be efficient using technology in all subject areas. This can be a challenge if I don't have the technology to do so. "Technology helps children to make significant gains in several areas." - Haugland

Our school is located in the inner city of Houston.

We have just over 600 students and ninety percent of our students are considered economically disadvantaged. Although my students may not have access to many resources outside of our school as a teacher it is my job to ensure that I exposed them to as much as I can. My Pre-Kindergarten students come into the classroom and this is their first time away from their parents and guardians so that alone can be a challenge. They are so ecstatic to learn new things, but at times engaging them into the lesson can be hard. Students become easily distracted and bored with the traditional lesson. Incorporating technology in the classroom will allow me to capture their attention and teach them valuable skills while doing so. Students will be able to navigate through a world of learning in every subject using their iPads. Having this early exposure to technology will greatly benefit my students since we are in a world that is so technology driven.

My Project

Having access to iPads in the classroom will allow me to incorporate technology into my lessons and expose students to the many benefits that iPads offer. During whole group and small group instruction I will use the iPads as a resource. Having the iPad for instructional use will allow me to model different activities to my students. This will greatly benefit students because sometimes students have a hard time grasping certain objectives no matter what material you present to them. I can use the different apps that are offered on the iPad to capture their attention and to tailor individual instruction for my students. Not only will we able to use the iPads during whole group and small group instruction we can also use it during center time. During center time my students will independently work on the iPads using their wireless headphones in all subjects such as Language Art, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

Donating to my project will change the way my teaching will look in the classroom.

Upon entering my classroom you will see technology incorporated into my lessons. Students will be more engage and have more hands on learning opportunities. Having technology will have a huge impact on how students view technology in their later years. I want to allow them to have a love for technology and feel confident while doing so. Early exposure is the key to success.
