My Students

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will.” – George Bernard Shaw

The sculpture students ranging from 9th - 12th grades are passionate about using their imaginations to build things.

I have just been asked to develop the sculpture program at my school and am still limited on the materials and supplies available to my students. The students at my school come from a variety of economic backgrounds. Some have the money to access expensive technology and other do not.

In this course I would like to give my students the opportunity to try a variety of sculpting materials. One type of sculpting would be using new technology to build. Our school does not have the funding to provide technology equipment for each student. I would like to give them the opportunity to use today's technology to find new ways to be creative. I want them all to have opportunities to be competitive and graduate with skills they can use in their future careers.

My Project

Last year, I had a sculpture student in my class who was interested in welding metal for sculpture but I did not have the equipment to allow him the opportunity to use metal to sculpt. He ended up taking a welding class outside of school and then he would create sculptures and bring them to me to see. This year in my class, I want my students to have a wider range of materials to work with.

My students need 3D printing pens with filament and soldering equipment in order to use technology in their sculpting.

I hope that these tools will encourage more creativity and my students will not feel so limited. With soldering equipment, my students will be able to weld metal into their projects. With 3D printing pens my students will be able to draw using plastic filament to create a 3 dimensional drawing.
