My Students

Agnes De Mille once said, "To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful... This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking”

Dance in my classroom is about uncovering and discovering a voice through movement and expression.

Students immerse themselves a multitude of ways that push them to new limits and challenge them physically and emotionally. In other words, dance gets my students "out of" their comfort zone and catapults them into a new, creative learning environment. My students are eager learners who are diverse culturally and socio-economically. Our school is a college preparatory charter high school in Southern California with a rigorous curriculum that is highly demanding. Students are expected to rise to the occasion academically despite social and financial obstacles that they may face. Our school is designated low socio-economic status and we are deemed a Title l school; despite these obstacles, our charter school continues to push our students to reach their potential as our vision clearly states "all students can learn".

My Project

I would love to have a computer in my classroom for my classroom projector. I am working on integrating more technology into the classroom through class projects. I am incorporating our online student grading system in to assignments, and I am also using documents stored on a cloud for my classroom curriculum. Additionally, I store all of our music on the computer. This is the safest place for me to ensure that our music is ready in playlists for dance class. I would also like to be able to use the computer for production...yes, dance production! I cut music, make the programs, and store all other pertinent information connected to our shows on a computer.

I would love to have a laptop computer that is designed specifically for dance instruction and my dance class.

It would be so nice to have everything stored in one organized place. Please consider donating to this project to help me support my growing dance curriculum that is becoming much more dependent on technology. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.
