This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am one of a few bilingual licensed Deaf/Hearing loss teacher in NYC. I work with a very special population of students. All of my students are relatively new to the U.S. They all come from different Spanish speaking countries. They are learning new cultures, a new language and adapting to their new lives. With encouragement and guidance they are able to learn, grow and go further in their education. My students all come from low to medium income, hard working families. They grapple with many issues at home. However, they always seem to move forward, they all have dreams and aspirations.

My students are always demonstrating resilience and perseverance.

My Project

During our current climate, teachers are relying heavy on technology that isn’t always provided to us. The laptop given doesn’t have the abilities that a MacBook could provide. The past few months have been difficult trying to download and share information with kids. I have been using my phone and daughter´s iPad to supplement what my work laptop cannot do.

This laptop will help me provide services to Deaf-hard of hearing students who have chosen to be remote.

In addition, I can use the laptop to moving forward with students who are doing hybrid as well.
