Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a New Jersey public preschool serving children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. Our school is a dual language school (English/Spanish). I teach children from various backgrounds and walks of life, making my classroom a reflection of the surrounding community. Many students in my class are ELLs and speak a language other than English at home. As a result, having limited language skills makes teaching and learning more challenging.

I expose my students to a quality book read aloud and activities in my classroom, and I would like to continue providing learning experiences at home as well.

My students take pride in what they learn and accomplish at school and at home. Often times our families have low or limited income and lack the resources to provide quality books, educational games, and activities to support learning especially now when they are confined at home in shelter-in-place.

My children enjoy reading and learning new things and sharing with their families all the exciting experiences they encounter each day. Social distancing is hindering their ability to learn, and this project will help me interact and stay a little closer to my students during distance learning.

My Project

My students need a MacBook Pro to align our virtual lesson to 21st century virtual instruction. The current laptop we have cannot keep up with the demands of virtual learning as it keeps freezing up during instruction taking away valuable time for instruction while I periodically restart my computer or wait for the software to respond. This is interfering with my students' ability to learn. Integrating new technology in my daily lessons will open endless possibilities for my students to to learn.

A MacBook Pro will enhance virtual lessons by helping me teach more efficiently, prerecorded lessons and book readings, create and store activities and story read-alouds, and take virtual field trips.

The docking station will facilitate connection of other devises I utilize during virtual classes such as the document camera and additional screen to monitor students.

With the materials I'm requesting in this project, I will be able to quickly access an abundance of free online resources to support and enhance virtual learning and research various topics of interest to my student to plan instruction. It will help me communicate with my students who are learning remotely due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
