My Project

Hello, I have been teaching in an LAUSD School for 28 years. My school is unique in that it offers a Dual Language Program (DLP) for students to learn both English and Spanish. For the past 10 years I have been teaching the English portion of the curriculum in the first grade DLP, while working closely with my co-teacher that teaches the Spanish portion of the curriculum. This position is difficult in that instead of having one class of students, I have two: forty-eight students come through my classroom every day, but it is worth it because I love what I do. My students are diverse and come from a range of socio-economic backgrounds and have a variety of needs. Having such a large number of students requires much differentiation, both academically, but also in terms of social-emotional learning.

In my classroom I try to utilize technology as much as possible in order to enhance student learning.

The district is currently providing Chromebooks for individual student use, but students experience difficulty logging in and accessing the various apps and websites provided for them. Additionally, as a teacher it is difficult to accurately administer assessments to students using a Chromebook. The iPads that I currently have access to are over 10 years old and have technical issues such as connecting to the internet. Getting a new iPad would be immensely helpful to both myself and my aide in administering benchmark assessments, and would also be a great resource for students to access learning apps.
