My Students

Imagine trying to master the 8th grade curriculum and prepare for high school without access to a computer or the Internet at home or at school!

My students attend an urban community school in New York City.

Most of my students are from low-income neighborhoods, and very few have access to computers or the Internet at home. As special needs students, my kids benefit from the use of multi-sensory instructional strategies. This includes viewing online videos, doing hands-on Internet research, and creating class documentaries using the camera feature of the laptop. The addition of a classroom laptop would engage and excite my students.

My Project

As my 8th grade students prepare themselves for high school they must learn to navigate technology in the age of Google. In order to research online journals, cite information, and view multi-media resources, my kids must have access to a computer! Even such skills as typing or creating a PowerPoint presentation need to be taught and practiced. With the assistance of a laptop my students will become aware, successful, and prepared for their futures. They will have access to the most up to date news information via the web and will experience technology.

Access to technology is even more essential to students with special needs.

Through the use of PowerPoints, videos, and online searches my students will tap into their individual learning styles and become successful in the classroom.
