Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fifth-grade class is comprised of a morning group of 22 students and an afternoon group of 24 students. I work at a Title I School with over 90% of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students have come from all around the world, from many different and often difficult situations. The majority of the students come from low economic households, where money is a daily struggle. They hold the American Dream but need the tools to make them successful.

My Project

My students need a laptop to enhance their learning and gain a better understanding of mathematical concepts to make them successful in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. All of my students are unique in their strengths and challenges, and it is the job of the teacher to promote and foster my students' individuality and love of learning. Hurricane Irma was a tremendous impact on our community and most of the students lack the technology to do research for projects, math lessons as a form of intervention, and homework assignments. With a laptop, I could more easily differentiate their learning to benefit their strengths and foster support where they need it the most.
