This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my kindergarten students are exposed to technology at an early age. Through their parents and siblings cell phones, tablets, and computers, students think that the internet is a place to play games. I want to teach my students the power of the internet as an educational resource and tool.

My students are fun loving, caring, smart, funny, and compassionate little individuals.

They help each other reach their goals and are very motivated to learn. They love helping me teach and helping each other throughout the school day. We are a kindergarten class that loves learning and taking care of our community. We recycle, we help, we laugh, we celebrate, and we struggle, but the important thing is that we work together. Our school is located near the north east side of Houston in a low economic area. Though many of my students are exposed to technology, they don't know how they can harness the power of the internet as a tool and resource to learn. My goal as their teacher is to not just teach them content, but to show them their inner strength and equip them with the right tools and skills to become life long learners. I have absolutely no doubt our class can do it, but sometimes we may need a little help.

My Project

If we are granted the iPad students will be able to access bilingual resources online during work stations, independent practice, and small group time. Students will be taught how to properly choose applications that will benefit their needs and exposed to new learning materials that weren't possible before. Literacy is something we strive for, even in kindergarten, exposing students to the many different ways we can read and become informed individuals will help us become life long learners. Apart from reading books online, students will also practice their blends, letter and sound recognition, matching upper and lower case, listening to reading, plus any other skills we may be practicing that week. During our math block students will be able to use the iPad in pairs to practice counting, arithmetic, subatizing, comparing numbers, and composing/decomposing numbers as well.

We will use this iPad daily, multiple times a day and share it with care with the peers in our class. Students will learn how to monitor their own learning and how to use technology not just for fun, but as a powerful resource to harness their own learning. Thank you.
