Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Today, students are excited by using technology, but without access, they have limited opportunity to acquire knowledge via electronic means. Limited parent involvement and lack of educational materials put my students at a disadvantage when compared to students who have these resources.

I teach Kindergarten at a Title I public school where 92% of the students receive reduced/free lunch.

The majority of the students live under stressful circumstances. Some have no parental figures and others must care for their younger siblings. They do not have the technology that allows them to discover a new and exciting world. The students come in to my classroom with no background knowledge or prior learning experiences. They come to school with physical, social, emotional, and psychological needs.

My Project

Technology is the foundation for education. It helps motivate students and allows active learning and discovery. The VHS/DVD player will be used to play videos that will help students acquire emergent skills in language, literacy, and math. The skills the videos will help the students obtain are fluency, reading comprehension, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, etc. The CD player/boom box will be used on a daily basis, playing books on CD, during reading and math centers. It will help my students integrate all aspects of literacy. Additionally, the CD player is a great resource that helps students understand how sounds connect to text. I will use the digital camera to take pictures of the students' creations to upload to my computer. When students see their pictures displayed in the classroom, they feel a sense of pride and accomplishment, which consequently boosts their self-esteem. Parents also will have access to a slideshow that will show their child's academic growth.

"Technology for High Achievement" will help my kindergarteners learn in a way that is fun and exciting.

Technology allows them to explore new ideas and develop interests in all subject areas beyond the textbooks. My students are audio-visual learners. The materials that I am requesting will help them acquire basic reading, math, writing and science skills necessary in creating a strong foundation for a promising future. Please help my students get the technology that will help them reach their dreams!
