Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low income families, and most of them come from families that do not speak English.

Every child in my room has the desire to learn.

My school is in the process of becoming a STEAM school. STEAM schools focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.

Being ESL students from low income families, what they really need are opportunities to work together with things they can manipulate while stimulating their minds to work in unique and creative ways.

My Project

Our school has recently begun the process of becoming a STEAM Entrepreneurial Magnet school. STEAM stands for Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics.

We are focusing on encouraging entrepreneurial skills in our students with a focus on STEAM skills.

We are preparing students for jobs in the future that do not yet exist today. Constant advances in technology mean that the careers our students will have will involve ever changing technology.

We are a low income Title 1 school, and our technology is sparse. By having a couple of classroom iPads, we can have multiple groups working on projects at the same time.

We are also big on flexible seating in our classroom, because we firmly believe that being able to work around the room in our collaborative groups allows for increased brainstorming, discussion, and a better flow of ideas. These are skills we want to see in our future entrepreneurs!
