My Students

Technology has become a major part of our daily lives. When it comes to education, there are many benefits. There are dozens of useful apps that students can use to practice their academics. These apps are interactive, engaging, and often adaptive to the needs of individuals. They make learning fun!

Fifth grade is a big year!

There is a lot of growing and learning that takes place over the course of this year. One of the things my 5th graders learn is note-taking. To learn to be an organized learner, they need the proper tools. This coming school year, I will have two classes of energetic, hard-working 5th grade students. My students attend school year-round at a magnet school in Connecticut. They come from a wide variety of towns and cities in the area, but many are from urban settings. My students enjoy tackling challenges and having (friendly) competitions (both in the classroom and on the athletic fields). They are creative and innovative. They pride themselves on exhibiting our school-wide learner expectations both in and out of the classroom.

My Project

By providing my students with 4 iPads and keyboards, you will allow them to access their various math programs, which act as supports for our math curriculum. There are also apps that serve as supports for struggling learners. Students will use the iPads daily as a math stations. Specifically, students will use Dreambox, IXL, and Door 24. Each student will access their individual account and progress at their own pace. As a teacher, I can also assign lessons and activities and track their learning. In science, students will use apps and the internet to conduct research, understand big ideas, and create presentations of their learning. When used properly, the internet can be a great resource to provide students with experiences to extend the learning in the classroom.

Having four iPads and keyboards will allow more students access to the technology available to them.

Students will be able to practice and extend their learning, discover information about the world through research, and create presentations to show their learning.
