My Students

My students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds. They range from low-income families to homes where parents are trying their best to raise their children in a neighborhood that has gang-related problems daily. There are students who are separated from their parents and live with either a foster family or a relative. Either way, they come to class eager to learn, which is why I wouldn't want anything more but to enhance their excitement for education through games and materials.

My Project

With 27 students in my classroom we currently have one teacher laptop and enough laptops for each student. With this said, you would think this would be more than enough for us to have access to technology. Unfortunately, the student laptops and my laptop are over 5 years old. Therefore, we are working with devices that are not always dependable. We are constantly interchanging for working laptops throughout the day, which can cause frustration for all of us.

My students handle the undependable devices gracefully, but how wonderful would it be to add one that is updated and reliable?

Currently my students love typing their essays in our writing unit. For Social Studies, they are researching the 4 California regions. During reading, they get to read or listen to their favorite stories online. They are having a blast learning how to use PowerPoint to present their Electricity and Magnetism projects.

To be able to give the opportunity that they can have an unfailing device is such a vital part of our day to day work. Exposing and giving access to my students is what my students need to be able to be a productive and positive member of our society.
