The first graders in my room come from various backgrounds and demographics. Being in an older low income school means I have to do my best to provide them with the same learning environments and supplies as newer classrooms. Learners need many repetitions to fully own what they are learning, especially many of my English language students. Young learners are sometimes reluctant to ask for help. Students from my classroom live in a quickly growing, diverse neighborhood in North Dakota. We have a fairly new migrant population with English as a second language. My students are highly creative, motivated students with a passion for learning that I never want to see disappear.
My Project
Adding 2 iPads to our classroom will provide students with the opportunity to collaborate among a small group. Students in the small groups will be able to practice individualized skills and share their learning with our wonderful district provided apps like seesaw and dreambox. These differentiated apps are just a few of the ways students thrive in our student centered classroom. Providing iPads will help my English language, refugee and low income students practice skills they are unable to at home. Utilizing iPads will also bring real world information right to our finger tips and bring in more parent involvement.
