I am a devoted seventh grade math teacher. I teach special education, and I am a New York City Teaching fellow. I teach in a very high-need community where over 75% of the students receive free lunch. Over 20% of the students in my school receive special services. The school that I teach in is one of the largest schools in the area, therefore it is very important that I take note of all student engagement in order to implement effective instruction.

My students love technology. With the use of technology my students can be presented with math based PowerPoints. This will tap into the minds of students who learn visually auditory and logical-mathematical, interpersonal learners and intrapersonal learners. My students come to me with their difficulties and I am constantly finding new ways to help them. It is my job as an effective teacher to hold their interest and constantly find new and exciting ways to engage students.

In order to show my students Math based PowerPoints and Math being processed live and in living color, my students require the purchase of an HP Mini Notebook. A Mini notebook will provide for many interesting opportunities in the classroom. At this point everything is technology based. I will be able to tap into prior knowledge and show students many concepts and visuals that are related to math. There are so many great math websites that are interactive and not only provide for learning, but will provide students with a means to work together and practice teamwork. Technology is the future and every student has the right to be exposed to it.

I know that my students deserve to be exposed to every resource that is available to them. There is no student that does not want to learn, only students that may need a little push to activate an interest. The use of technology will provide this interest. My students deserve this! I know that if given the opportunity to utilize a HP netbook in the classroom they will each be more interested in math and rise to the occasion.
