Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fifth grade students are eager learners with diverse cultural backgrounds. Many of my students are English language learners who bring enthusiasm and curiosity to every task, even the challenging ones. I work with many newcomers to the United States who have endured great obstacles to be here. It humbles me to see how much they value education and how they strive to succeed in a new land, language, and culture.

We perceive diversity as a strength to be harnessed and nurtured.

In my classroom, we often design lessons and activities around an inquiry model, so that all students are exposed to rigor. At the same time, they can access content in meaningful ways.

At our school, we believe that a collaboration of families, teachers, and students is what makes our community resilient. We are always learning and evolving in our practices.

My Project

Now that our students have returned to school in person, it is essential that they all have access to technology in order to improve their media literacy. When students have their own Chromebooks, they can research safely and effectively. Help us expand our Chromebook inventory so that every student can access technology while maintaining social distancing safety protocols in the classroom.

In this age of fast-paced media, it is essential for all students to understand how to prudently navigate online resources for research.

Now that we are back to full class size, we are eager to get all students researching and writing online independently. It is critical that they understand how to identify reliable sources. Our goal is to get a Chromebook in every student's hand!
