I teach 2nd grade in a low-income, high-need elementary school. I teach in a school that incorporates looping in a two year cycle. I am in the 2nd year of my 2 year loop. I have 16 students that were in my 1st grade classroom last year. I currently have 26 students including a student who is emotionally disabled.
My students love using the computer! They love playing educational games, typing their journal entries, and just about anything else you can think of! I am lucky in that I have 5 classroom computers that I utilize everyday.
Today computers are everywhere, but in my classroom I have many students who do not have one at home. If they miss a day on the computer at school, they are disappointed but eager for their next turn.
I recently learned all about podcasting and was geared up to get it started in my classroom. However, I do not have all the supplies to get it up and running.
I need 2 digital cameras that are easy to use so my students can take pictures and shoot short films every week. I also need 2 microphones so that my students can record individual and weekly shows.
I would love for the kids to have their 'own' cameras and microphones so they can really take ownership of their projects. Having such valuable equipment to handle also gives them a sense of responsibility.
With your donation my students will be able to write and take pictures and videos of endless stories. Now, not only will my students get experience working on the computer, but they will get hands-on learning with a variety of technological tools!
Not only will they have these stories to look back on at the end of the year but they will priceless experiences that will last a lifetime!
