My Students

Imagine a day without technology. No cell phone, no email, no wifi. A world like that would be hard to navigate! That's why it is so important that my students have the chance to experience and utilize technology in our classroom.

I teach an incredible and vibrant group of third graders in a high need school in Chicago.

Our school is a charter school, and although we already get to meet for eight hours a day, it is rare that students don't come early or stay late because school is such a fun and exciting place to be. Many student make use of after school time to get to use a computer, or they go to the local library to check out computer time there. They love the chance to practice their reading and math skills with our on-line programs. Many have already improved their reading and math scores with all the extra practice and tutoring they get from computers!

My Project

I am requesting a Netbook computer and printer for several reasons. First, this is an awesome resource that I can put in my center group so that students can use it while I am pulling small reading and math groups. Second, all of the students use Netbooks to take their tests each spring. Having time to practice during the school year on our own Netbook will put my students even closer to meeting their growth goals this year. Finally, entering the work world with technology skills is not just important, it is essential. Having another computer in the room that my students can use for typing and printing their stories, going to their educational websites, and practicing their math and reading skills will make these third graders better prepared for the bright future that awaits them.

Technology is the key to opening up jobs and opportunities for young people.

My students have been working so hard to give our charter school the college prep reputation we have earned, and I would love to see them one step closer to meeting their academic goals with this amazing opportunity to incorporate technology into the daily life of our classroom.
