Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students DESIRE success, but a lack of technology at school (and at home) is preventing access to resources that are essential to achieving their high school, college, and career goals.

I teach in a low socioeconomic area with diverse demographics in an urban public school district.

Budget cuts have halted any new purchases of resources, including replacing outdated technology. Our librarian has returned to the classroom and the library, which is one of the only places many of my students have access to computers and printers, is often closed. Most of my students do not have computers or printers at home. Many of my seniors only attend school until lunchtime or 5th period because they work to help support their families. Having access to a Canon wireless printer and ink cartridges in our classroom will help them print necessary assignments like essays and projects for classes, as well as prepare for life after high school with job applications, resumes, and scholarship applications.

My Project

Currently I am working with my seniors on their personal statements and college applications. After that we will be doing a workforce unit where they will research jobs and careers. There is a wealth of information on the Internet that will help pave the way to their future success. Researching state, local, and private colleges and trade schools will not only provide my students with options for majors and career focus, but it will also assist in applying for financial aid. Being able to print the necessary materials will help my students complete their applications, personal statements, and resumes, as well as complete projects and assignments for class requirements. Currently we have a printer that is nearly six years old and on its last leg of printing life. A new Canon wireless printer and cartridges will double the accessible of printing techKNOWlogy for my students.

Knowledge is power!

To attain that knowledge my students desperately need access to technology. Your donation will provide my students with a Canon wireless printer and ink cartridges that will enable them to succeed in their current classes and pursue their post-high school goals.
