Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine going to work hungry or worried about issues occurring at home that are out of your control, yet being asked to perform at your best. It's pretty difficult isn't it?

These are the real everyday situations that my students face.

As a Title I school, 96% of students are Hispanic, 50% are English Language Learners, and 99% of students receive free or reduced price lunch.

Though many of my students face these challenges, they still come to school with a "can do" attitude and give me their best. It is for that reason that I try to make our classroom as homey and comfortable as possible. I also want to give students experiences that they may not have ever had, from creating presentations after researching to discovering new places via Google Earth. Thanks to the advancements in technology I will be able to do so.

My Project

We need two Chromebooks to broaden their understanding and exposure to cultures and issues that surpass the boundaries of the four walls of our classroom. Students will be able to use the Chromebooks to research other cultures, places, and issues that contribute to the status of their future. I also want to expose students to academics in a nontraditional way.

I am a firm believer of the Latin proverb that "in teaching we learn."

Students will use the Chromebooks to look up unknown vocabulary and create presentations via Google slides or PowerPoint to teach other students. This will allow students to show their true understanding of new information in a meaningful way.

This technology grant will give students the chance to evolve the much needed tech skills that can lead to future success.
