My Students

Imagine being in a class where you can communicate with technology! A new app called Socrative will allow just the right amount of technology with minimal cost. In college we used a clicker to answer questions. Now you can use any wireless device.

My students are from a rural part of SC.

We are a blue collar community with many one parent families. In spite of most of our students being on free and reduced lunch, they are very creative and starving to learn. Introducing them to technology is a state standard. We have a computer in our room, but to rotate 100 students through that computer is difficult. I have given them my iPad and cell phone to use for research. They are very good at finding information. One student told of his sister in college and how they take test. We have played with Socrative and used the ticket out the door to answer questions. This has inspired students to give more in depth answers because they can see them posted on the projector. Adding another iPad will give more students the opportunity to share what they learn.

My Project

Classroom blogs, twitting, and weebly are becoming old news in technology. Students are finding new ways to express themselves. With technology in the classroom such as iPads, students can open a new window into learning. Classdojo is an interactive behavior program that students monitor the choices they make. This is just one of many programs students are using. By having access to the Internet they are able to combine all there research into one place to share with other students nationally. This program called Livebinders allows them to even access their work when they are absent from home. Livebinders is a app that can be downloaded on any mobile device. Students and teachers can add to the binder. It is like keeping notes, work, and Internet searches all in one place. It is not on paper but in a binder on the Internet. The classroom is limitless. We can access our work from any location. Students are in control of their learning.

School budgets are being cut.

PTA can only help so much. Teachers pockets are empty but our students are still thriving. Money does not make a child, but it helps make learning more interesting. To compete with a world of electronics, we need technology in the classroom. Students know what it is and how to use it. We just need access to it. Trips to the Library are hard when gas keeps going up. Students don't mind sharing. They are grateful for what we have. It is nice to reward creativity
