Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology is all around us and it has played an important role in increasing the academic skills of all my students. The more technology they have access to, the better they will be able to increase skills in all developmental domains.

The early learners in my classroom present as being on the autism spectrum.

Although they are young, they have made tremendous gains during their time in my classroom. Many were not yet able to express themselves verbally when they first entered the program, but now they are able to have conversations with peers and adults. Academically, many are reading C and D leveled readers, adding objects and beginning to phonetically decode words. Technology has been an important piece in helping to motivate my students to achieve at such a high level.

My Project

The iPad mini has a variety of applications that will help students increase achievement. iBooks can be used to download leveled readers to help increase reading ability and comprehension. There are many applications that can be downloaded to increase academic achievement such as Stack the States, Solar Walk, and Presidents vs. Aliens, all of which are very popular with my students. There are also a variety of social skills and tracing apps to help increase skills in those domains. Many academic videos and songs are also accessible through technology.

My classroom already has two iPads, however they are a highly desirable resources and the students will 'work' to earn the iPads during choice time.

The iPads serve as a motivational tool during the school day as the students are reminded that they need to follow the rules and complete their tasks in order to choose iPads at the end of the school day. During choice time many of the students will choose the iPads; unfortunately, there are not enough to go around.
