Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Dual Language 2nd graders attend a Title 1 school in East Los Angeles. They are enthusiastic learners and together, we work extra hard to develop their bi-literacy, academic content, and cultural awareness taught in both English and Spanish. Many come for social economically disadvantage backgrounds. Regardless of school closures, we are eager to learn, while away from the stability and support of our classroom.Distant learning continues to be challenging endeavor to my students' education.
In addition, not having adequate teaching digital tools has become an obstacle for me to support my students' learning and their social-emotional health .
My Project
Back-to-School has always meant days of summer where I go back to my classroom and begin setting up a welcoming, safe, learning and teaching environment for my students. However, the traditional classroom that my students and I know, has been put on hold due to Covid-19. I now have the responsibility to re-imagine and deliver our "new" classroom where my students can learn, actively engage with their peers, and continue to have that sense of community.
Innovative digital tools will help me deliver instruction to my students in the most effective way from my home.
An iPad and Apple Pencil are such tools I can use with my students. They allow me to demonstrate lessons to my students live with Zoom, Google Classroom, Nearpod and other digital platforms. I can record read aloud books, write and edit student work, and share learning videos. Most importantly, these tools will help me build my students' positive social emotional health by building community through art, music, and play activities.
