Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a dedicated speech therapist, I am honored to work with an incredible group of nonverbal students on the autism spectrum. Each day, I am inspired by their unique perspectives, determination, and resilience. My students teach me the true meaning of perseverance and the importance of communication. However, these amazing children face significant challenges in expressing their needs, thoughts, and emotions. This is where Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices become vital. By providing my students with a charging port for their AAC devices, we are ensuring that these essential tools are always ready for use, giving them the voice they need to advocate for themselves and fully participate in their educational experience. The specific charging port I am requesting will make a transformative difference in my students' learning. Ensuring that AAC devices are always charged and ready will empower students to communicate their basic needs, such as asking for a break, requesting help, or indicating discomfort. It will facilitate social interactions with peers, promoting inclusion, engagement in class activities and building friendships. Most importantly, reliable access to functioning AAC devices fosters independence and allows students to express their preferences.

What truly makes my students special is their unwavering spirit and their diverse ways of understanding and interacting with the world.

They are bright, curious, and eager to learn, despite the communication barriers they face. Each of them has unique strengths and talents that deserve to be nurtured and celebrated. By supporting this project, you are not only providing essential tools for learning but also honoring the potential and individuality of every child. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student has a voice. Thank you for considering this project and for your generosity in helping my students reach their full potential.
