My Students

I teach a class of 14-year-old young adults with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments in a high school class of 12 students. My students are focusing a majority of their time in school preparing for life after high school which is why we put a big emphasis on vocational skills and work-based learning! We work with each student individually to help them communicate what their personal goals and visions for their futures are.

My goal is to give my students the skills to be as independent as possible in preparation for their future while considering each students' specific needs/goals.

My students are a creative, energetic, determined group that are excited for the opportunity to start this new project together!

My students already have experience in labeling and organizing our school's library from previous years. We also practice interviewing skills, job applications, cooking, cleaning, money, time, and functional writing skills.

My Project

Students with disabilities have specific needs to learn and stay engaged in their academics. With the necessary items, such as fidget toys and little figures, students will have a motivation to work harder to earn their well-deserved breaks. As their teacher, I specify their learning by individualizing their work to cater to each students' specific needs. Some students require more hands-on learning, which is why there are items on the list that help with kinesthetic learners. The cooking items and tea kettles are to begin our classrooms' vocation selling tea. The goal is to learn the skills needed for their future and also earn money for more parties since we can no longer go on class trips due to the pandemic.
