My Project
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected our students socially, emotionally, and academically. As educators, we are looking for every opportunity to close the gaps created by the pandemic and work towards providing our students on the coast an equity-based education.
Collaboration is a major strategy that can be used to promote equitable learning for all students.
The math classroom has been stigmatized as an environment that only seeks correctness. I want students to move away from this kind of thinking and experience the beauty of the thinking process. By allowing students from diverse backgrounds to work together in small groups, they are provided the opportunity to celebrate their academic differences and increase their mathematical reasoning skills. In addition, they get to rebuild any social skills that were affected by the pandemic.
These mobile whiteboards will support my students by creating space for them to work in small groups on a non-permanent surface. Students will be more likely to be vulnerable while collaborating when we take away the idea that their thinking is “permanent.” Help me turn my classroom into an engaging, collaborative, and critically thinking space!
