My Students

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin

One way my students love to learn is through meaningful conversations and working in small groups.

My students continue to develop their love of group activities and their ability to orally share what they are learning. Their confidence with participating in discussions is growing and leading them to develop a better understanding of the concepts being taught in class as native and non-native English speakers.

My students are enthusiastic fifth graders who are excited for their final year in elementary school. They are well-behaved and highly motivated to learn. Their positive attitude enables them to be focused, hard workers. My class is made up of 30% English Language Learners which has me using various teaching methods to help them improve in the English language along with mastering the other fifth grade standards including the Common Core Standards. We still lack basic school supplies, furniture, and equipment, but that doesn't deter my students from being academically successful.

My Project

As I implement flexible seating in my classroom, we are still in need of desks that are appropriate to the style of learning my students are growing accustomed to this year. While our classroom is slowly coming together with a couple new tables and some new chairs this year, we still have desks that take up too much space and don't allow my students to work collaboratively. The Flex-Space Mobile Trapezoid Table and the Flex-Space Mobile Standing Desk for Two will allow me to group my students easier, and enable my students to work collaboratively in small groups with more ease.

When working on partner or group assignments, my students need to be able to hear and speak to each other easily, since we work collaboratively multiple times a day.

These desks will allow my students of all sizes to find a place in a spacious classroom to sit and feel comfortable without worrying about bumping into their partners, their knees touching the bottom of their desks, or being unable to see the board clearly. They will be able to work together more closely, and be more engaged and ready to learn. These mobile tables will not only allow me to move the tables around the room where I see fit, but they will also allow students to easily work in small groups that may require space, such as problem solving, using manipulatives and technology, and performing experiments.
