My Project
The 4th-grade students of our gardening club, “Team Tomato,” are a remarkable group of budding scientists, gardeners, and community leaders. Meeting weekly, these students dive into hands-on learning experiences, exploring nature, science, sustainability, and teamwork. As the assistant principal and club facilitator, I am inspired by their enthusiasm for tackling challenges and their dedication to making a difference.
The items we’re requesting—wooden planters, whiskey barrel planters, and boxwood shrubs—will allow our students to transform the front of our school into a beautiful, inviting space.
The planters will serve as the foundation for their design, while the shrubs provide greenery that will flourish for years to come. These resources will enable our students to develop their gardening skills, engage in outdoor learning, and foster a sense of ownership and pride in their environment.
Beyond beautifying our school, the students are focused on giving back to the community. They’ve brainstormed ways to use the plants and crops they grow to address local needs, such as donating fresh produce to those experiencing food insecurity or bringing nature indoors to brighten our hallways. These projects teach the importance of sustainability and community service while helping students develop confidence, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
The students of Team Tomato are curious, creative, and compassionate. They love rolling up their sleeves, getting their hands dirty, and working together toward a common goal. This project will not only enhance their learning but also leave a lasting impact on our school and community. With your support, we can help these young gardeners grow into environmental stewards who are making the world a greener, kinder place.
