My Students

Engaged, eager, excited, intelligent students enter my classroom seeking an experience atypical to those they've had before. They are eager, young world-changers hoping for realistic collegiate preparatory experience, but they are disappointed to find themselves using textbooks that are older they are! These bright young students are hopeful that they can have access to new resources from living authors, allowing an enriching experience much like that of the college classrooms they will soon occupy. Help me provide a classroom that affords them this opportunity!

My Project

My largest complaint every year with teaching literature is "I HATE poetry." My goal is to change students' mindsets through teaching living poets. One way to tackle this challenge is to put a collection of poetry from a living author into the hands of my students. We will not only work through the collection together, but we will also actively engage with the poet himself.

This project will reverse years of negativity associated with poetry and help foster a new-found love of verse.

Through working with a living author, students can engage with both the text and writer, deepening their understanding.
