Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am an ENL teacher in her second year who has expanded the space in her classroom. My elementary students are emergent bilinguals capable of achieving a lot. They come from all walks of life, but about half of them come from Yemeni Muslim families and are learning about their heritage and culture in their communities.

I want my Yemeni Muslim and non-Yemeni students alike to learn about their heritage and culture in school.

One vision that I have for my new, larger classroom is to expand the classroom library for my students. A part of this library will have books that have characters that students can identify with, who look like them. Through these books, they can learn about their heritage and culture. Other students will learn about cultures different than their own.
