My Students

"We've arranged a civilization in which most crucial elements profoundly depend on science and technology." --Carl Sagan Even in an English and History class, my students need access to technology. It provides them not only a means of accessing information, but also of creating content themselves.

I have over 60 sixth graders who attend an urban middle school in a high-poverty neighborhood.

Half of these students are English Language learners who have been in school in the U.S. since kindergarten. They are falling further and further behind their peers.

My Project

Having an iPad in the classroom will allow my students to take advantage of the many tablet applications available to help them gain literacy skills that they are lacking. It will also give them an authentic avenue for communicating their ideas and expressing their creativity within an English and History classroom setting.

It is no longer sufficient for students to merely access information from the Internet.

They need to be able to create content and share information. By having an iPad in the classroom, more students will be able to use their literacy skills in meaningful ways and be able to access applications that allow them to boost their skills in fun and engaging activities.
