Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project is designed to increase the social-emotional learning of my students this school year. Utilizing these project materials, students will feel valued and encouraged to create a more compassionate school community by building awareness of self and others through social-emotional learning and strategies that build kindness and compassion. At our school, we want the emphasis to be on the whole child as a human being that comes to us with needs we must support through curriculum and play-based learning. Using social awareness journaling skills, students will learn how to have empathy by learning another's perspective. Students will discover how they can help alleviate suffering by making good choices with others in mind and being more aware of their peers' diversity and how they can show empathy. Students can then write a quick note of encouragement to a peer who may be struggling and in need of support or understanding. They will learn what it means to have compassion and gratitude for each other through journaling and explore what our role is in working together as a school to ensure every student feels welcome and safe emotionally by understanding the differences that make us unique and the similarities that make us a community of learners.
