Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 9th through 12th graders who are all tackling extremely challenging high school math curriculum. The students in my classes range from 13 to 18 years old. About 80% of my students have Individualized Education Plans and/or are English language learners. Most of them live and go to school in East Harlem, a diverse and culture-filled neighborhood in Manhattan. The majority of my students live in low-income housing, public housing projects, or even shelters. Many have come into the classroom carrying a baggage of trauma that most people have not had to deal with in a lifetime.

Despite all that my students have to deal with outside of our school doors, they are used to coming to school EVERY SINGLE DAY—with enthusiastic smiles on their faces, ready to learn.

Our school has always been a safe and comforting place for my students who relied on the school staff for emotional support and the school building for food and warmth.

My Project

After engaging in Remote Learning for 13 months, I recognize that my students will have some difficulty transitioning back into a fully in-person classroom environment. Some students may struggle academically while some may struggle socially-emotionally. Ultimately, however, I know that my students will need ALL of my attention.

This Logitech Presentation Remote will allow me to teach from any location in the classroom.

Having this presentation remote in my hands, I will be able to change the slides on the SmartBoard and not have to walk all the way up to the board to do so. I will have the freedom to work with students more closely and stand in all areas of the classroom while teaching.

This game-changing tool will allow me to give students the reassurance they need, whether it be academically or socially-emotionally. I am excited to be able to have the freedom of movement and to not have to be tied down to a certain location in the classroom.
