This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Mi mamá no puede leer!"

"No se teacher.

No se maestra"

These are the haunting words my students stated last year. Working in a predominantly low-income community has it's obstacles. My students are challenged day in and day out with language barriers. Many of their parents are illiterate or working 12 hour shifts to support their family which makes it difficult to help their children with school work. The community my students live in exposes them to the daily struggles immigrant and low-income people face (i.e., homeless, gangs, drugs, violence, etc). As their teacher, I would like my students to learn to be resilient adults and excel in anything they set their mind to.

My Project

Do you remember a teacher you felt heard you? Perhaps you remember a teacher that would work one-on-one with you and/or reinforce a strategy taught that day? Or maybe you're a teacher yourself and knows of the importance of conferencing time during readers and writers workshop? This will be my second year teaching and I am excited to incorporate everything I have learned during my program.

My goal this year is to meet with students on a daily basis to strengthen/scaffold their learning and thus reach their greatest capacity.

I would like a teacher desk to help accomplish the dream I have for all my students, to be successful and open minded students.
