Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Take a moment to think about your kindergarten experience. Did you just get a feeling of nostalgia, too? Kindergarten was an amazing and fun time that taught you the foundations of reading, writing, and math. My students are getting that same experience, but they are in need of materials that will help them learn tolerance through what they do best: play and hands on discovery.

The children I teach are energetic, wonderful, hardworking students.They impress me everyday with their awesome attitudes because many of them face challenges in their lives that many of us have not experienced.

We are a full day kindergarten class at a Title 1 school. Our school is located in a high poverty urban area. All of our students qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. The student population is 85% Hispanic, 7% African American, 3% Caucasian, and 2% Asian.

My Project

Linda Thompson once said, "Our uniqueness, our individuality, and our life experience molds us into fascinating beings. I hope we can embrace that. I pray we may all challenge ourselves to delve into the deepest resources of our hearts to cultivate an atmosphere of understanding, acceptance, tolerance, and compassion. We are all in this life together."

This quote is dear to me because our world we live in today is full of hate!

As a kindergarten teacher, I feel my job is to instill tolerance in each child so that way they will appreciate other cultures, and differences.

I am requesting a set of books that will give me an opportunity to teach my students about different countries, and their culture. We will study each county, and learn about similarities and differences. I am also requesting a digital camera that I will use to take pictures of my students. The pictures I take will be included in our letters that we send to our pen pals. Having a pen pal will give the students a chance to see even though we have different attributes, we are similar in so many ways!

This project will be key in teaching tolerance, and acceptance of diversity. Thank you so much for considering donating to our classroom. Thank you for believing in us!
