My Students

I teach in a rural district. My school is 76% free and reduced lunch. I teach over 400 students of fourth and fifth graders. My school has a STEAM program that started 2 years ago. My students are very enthusiastic about coding and technology. I want to expand Technology in our school by having enough headphones for every student to learn coding.

My Project

My students need headphones to expand their knowledge in Technology. We spend class time every week learning to code on computers. My students work at their own pace. Without headphones it gets really confusing and distracting for the students to learn. They have to turn the sound down so low it is difficult to hear what the instructional videos are saying. They have been using subtitles as well but most of my students find reading challenging and would benefit more from hearing the instructions.

If we had enough headphones for the whole class, then they would be able to understand better and find it easier to learn.

They really enjoy the coding component of learning Technology in the STEAM classroom. I want them to be able to hear so that they can learn and improve at their own pace without disturbing the student next to them.
