Organized chaos. Ninety-one students come in and out of my classroom each and every day. My students should be growing into young adults - more respectful, more patient, more motivated. One of the biggest challenges in getting my students there is too many distractions. "You can do it." -My mom.
My students are like a Crayola box.
They come in all different shapes, sizes, attitudes, likes, dislikes, moods, learning modes. They are happy, sad, angry, moody, in love with a boy/girl, teacher's pet, class clown, and others are reported to the assistant principal's office. Some come from low-income families, where school is their chance to get a hot meal and others come from middle-class families. Some students love coming to school each and every day, others complain from the minute they get into the classroom till the moment they exit the school doors.
My school is very diverse. Teachers do their best to motivate and push students to their best abilities. We try and go on trips, incorporate fun activities, and congratulate the students at every opportunity. Unfortunately, our school just was approved for a charter school to come in at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year. We need as many supplies as possible now, before we get overrun.
My Project
With a class computer, ink, and paper students will have a sense of community within my classroom. Often, students don't have Internet or a printer at home. They often come to me and ask me to print their assignments out, go on the internet to research a project, or go on some educational websites. This will also help them for test prep and writing skills. My students are constantly asking me to sharpen their pencils. Unfortunately, I have to say no because I don't have one. With a great sharpener students will not be distracted during class time to ask me or someone next to them for a sharpener and then have to stop the lesson. There is not much space around the room to write or hang posters. With a white board/cork board I can have more room to write lessons, solve problems, and post student work. Library books and cards will help keep our classroom library more organized and more books will not get lost at students homes.
These donations will improve my classroom tremendously.
These supplies will help build more of a community within the classroom - an enhanced library, more technology and an classroom Internet cafe, folders for students who are always misplacing their handouts/assignments, and a whiteboard will help students focus more and be more interested in class related things. I want them to want to come to class to see what new novel arrived!
