My Students

This is my 17th year as an educator. I started my career as a special education classroom teacher and have been working as a school social worker for the past 11. I have the honor of supporting the needs of students, families and staff at two schools on Staten Island. My school's are high poverty school's in New York City. All of our students receive free lunch. Ninety-seven percent of our student population is Black or Latino; many are first-generation Americans. Many of my students are transitioning from homelessness and or living in temporary housing. Our students are faced with many challenges inside and outside the classroom. They struggle personally and academically. Thirty percent of our students receive Special Education services. Despite the challenges they face daily, my students are happy and motivated to learn.

My Project

I am requesting funds to participate in Breathe For Change’s 2018-2019 ChangeAgent Coaching and Leadership Development program! I have developed a passion for using yoga, meditation, and mindfulness as a vehicle for social change. At this time I am ready to enroll in this rigorous 10-month program and resolve to make myself a competitive leader of change for my school community.

The Breathe For Change ChangeAgent program is an investment in my school community’s future success.

I will be provided with a highly personalized experience, and Breathe for Change will help me craft and implement a transformational learning experience to optimize my ability to cultivate social change in my school community.

The Breathe For Change pedagogy - focused on yoga, meditation, and SEL*F. The Transformational Leadership tools I will gain through the ChangeAgent program will empower me to succeed in settings where social-emotional learning competencies, impact data, the ability to harness and communicate effectively about both will become increasingly important.

The Breathe For Change ChangeAgent Coaching and Leadership Development Program will not only provide me with coaching and leadership tools that are needed to drive systemic change, but also develop my facilitation skills, build my content knowledge and instructional delivery of social-emotional learning standards, as well as prepare me for the B4C Trainer application process. Upon the successful completion of this program, I will earn the B4C ChangeAgent Coaching Certification Level 1.

The Breathe For Change ChangeAgent Coaching and Leadership Development Program will provide me with tools I need to lead wellness programs for students, families and staff.
