My Students

My school serves approximately 440 students and is part of a smaller district in Southern California. It is a sought-after elementary school in the community because expectations are high and students are challenged to achieve to their highest potential.

The staff members at my school truly believe that all children can and will learn, and we are committed to identifying strategies to reach and maintain this vision.

My Project

After 23 years of teaching, I have discovered that my students are most engaged when I am reading a book. Regardless of the topic, my students truly enjoy the experience of being read to. Not only does this provide me the priceless opportunity to model strong reading skills, but this engagement also offers me the opportunity to address vital topics, such as social equity and social emotional health during scary times such as the pandemic we are currently experiencing.

My current classroom library is in desperate need of an upgrade.

I need titles that are relevant to the time and my literature needs to have characters that my students can relate to. The books I have selected will provide my students with characters that look, feel and act like them. They address current issues in our society and how to handle emotions that may arise because of them. I am excited to give my classroom library a much needed upgrade!
