My Students

"Where we start is not where we will finish," is the perfect statement to describe my students. They are often thought of as troublemakers; however, my students are bright and want to learn. We work hard to dispel that stereotype.

The students in my class are economically challenged.

Despite this set back, I have seen some students come in below grade-level and leave scholars. However, it took a lot of work on their part. My school is in an inner city neighborhood and there are many who believe the only way out is through sports, but I say no.

My Project

During these unprecedented time, teachers are being challenged to raise to the occasion and teach our students. I am a part of a group of diverse women Mathematics Teachers. We have worked together for years to impart a love of Mathematics to all our students. Moreover, with the recent leave from physical classes, I have made an extra effort to not lose the interest of our girls.

We call our girls scholars because we want for them to know they are more than just a student.

They can excel in Mathematics! As Dr. Wynn-Grant said in the If/Then collection, "Focus on the passion not the performance." If they make a mistake, then learn from it and strive to do better next time. Persistence is the key not perfection.

I am requesting wireless headphones to be able to teach and reach my young ladies (and young men) both in person and online. We are slowly returning to the classroom. As this transition takes place, I need to ability to explicitly teach from the board for physical students and also via zoom for my distance learners.
