Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you noticed how much children like to see themselves! I remember using a friend's iPad in my after school dance class and my students were overjoyed to watch themselves. How empowering technology can be for students and I have seen it aid in students who may not believe in their own talents.

This Brooklyn based elementary school enrolls approximately 1,240 preschool and elementary school students from grades PK-5.

Our school is a true neighborhood school dedicated to the growth and development of these Brooklyn Children. With many students born overseas and more than a third classified as English language learners, our schools nurturing culture gives kids a friendly home in their new country while practicing some of the most progressive, child-centered teaching in Brooklyn. Many of our parents are hard working recent immigrants that honor and value school and came to America for the purpose of their children getting a good education. Our students are hard working and overjoyed when they are exposed to the arts. Our students love to have their culture integrated into their learning and are inspired by learning about other cultures and all kinds of music. Our students are often living with 2 or 3 families in one apartment and yet are so resilient and eager to learn.

My Project

The iPad gives more intriguing and interesting options for what can be done to enable student learning. I also plan on using it to record videos of the students and allow them to watch themselves and visually see their progress. Learning music through the iPad means you can use 100's of creative apps and tap into students particular strengths and interests. Some apps include: 1- Real Piano Pro A full 88-key piano app that brings you realistic grand piano sound, smoothly moving and zooming, customizable key labels, and professional tuning & transposition functionalities. 2- Note Perfect Note Perfect is the pocket workout for music students! Test and improve your note reading against the clock in our addictive and enjoyable game. 3- Ear Trainer Ear Trainer is an educational tool designed for musicians, music students and anyone interested in improving ones musical ear. It is filled with over 160 individual exercises covering intervals, chords, scales and relative pitch. And more.

€œOne good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.

- Bob Marley Children love music and my goal of the music class is that they are learning about the history and cultural connections of music but that they are primarily happy and uplifted by their singing and playing music. I believe music is the healer and it is my goal to let students understand the therapeutic benefits of music. I am grateful to be a music teacher and an iPad will 100% increase my students enthusiasm.
