Exploring Mathematics through Children's Literature. I teach 6th grade Mathematics to both special and general education students in a high-poverty school in a high-need area.

Teachers often introduce or review a math concept by reading a story to the class. This enjoyment of literature helps children view math learning in a positive, meaningful way. Then, students participate in activities in which they focus on connections between mathematics and children’s literature. However, I am in need of literature books to begin a classroom library.

Studies supporting the integration of mathematics and literature indicate that there is a strong relationship between learning mathematics content by listening to and interacting with mathematical stories. Please help my students by providing literature books with an emphasis on Mathematics.

Using children’s literature will help my students have a better understanding of mathematics. Providing my classroom with Mathematics literature books that complement various topics they are studying will help my students comprehend new concepts and will motivate them.
