My Students

My school has had such an influx of young children these past few years that we now have four Pre- Kindergarten classes! What a great thing for us Early Childhood teachers! We love being able to start molding young minds at such an early age!

Our school is a very diverse, multi-cultural, multi-language school filled with children who are eager to learn, parents who are eager to help, and teachers who are excited about teaching.

Our school population consists of 10% English Language Learners, 10% Individual Education Plan students and 53% of our students qualify for free lunch.

This year, I am switching grades! I will now be teaching full-day Pre-Kindergarten in my NYC school. I just set up my new classroom, and I became aware of the fact that I need more toys, books, and materials to promote multicultural awareness, diversity, and acceptance on the Pre-K level. My class represents many different cultures, backgrounds, lifestyles, religions, and languages which all need to be represented in the classroom. It’s important for my students to celebrate and embrace their differences and to know they are all welcome here!

My Project

These materials are needed to promote awareness in my young Pre K students regarding cultural, religious, language, and lifestyle differences. I want to ensure that my classroom shows diversity and acceptance throughout the learning process. By representing different types of people and cultures in my lessons and in the learning centers, my students will gain a sense of belonging and understanding. They will see that being different is not only a good thing, but it’s what makes us special and unique. I want them to always know “We are all welcome here.”
